ELYSIAN PARK RESIDENCE

We designed this three-story house located on a relatively narrow, down-sloping lot in the heart of Los Angeles. Taking advantage of multiple views to the park, the main living areas are located on the second floor and feature a conversation pit and a generous recessed deck. The home is planned to be net zero; implementing solar panels, a high-efficiency heating and cooling system, along with energy efficient appliances. By recessing the windows and doors exposed to the southern side and providing operable skylights, the house will inherently require less energy to heat and cool. The exterior of the house is to be clad in dark Shou Sugi Ban siding with light natural stained cedar siding at the entrance and second floor deck. Inside, a warm, modern palette pervades, with wood ceiling throughout the main floor along with accents of concrete and plaster.
